I kind of noticed this, too. Except for defending the Krytans, I'm having a hard time remembering which was which. Follow a path and kill some enemies... But it was still new content that added to the storyline, so I enjoyed it.

I find it kinda sad that some *cough* players here see the new lore quests as mandatory and moan about it because they either don't want to do it once or whine that they "have" to do it on all their other characters aswell. I seriously wonder why they even bother playing this content, no one is forcing you and you don't miss out on anything besides the lore by ignoring the quest chain.
On a more positive note: I enjoyed these quests a lot, playing as keiran was a lot of fun. It wasn't really hard, but it doesn't need to as the quest chain's main purpose is guiding us through the lore while having a bit of fun playing a character with a unique skillset.
I really hope to see more of these unique things, thumbs up for anet.

I wonder if killing Rotscale during these quests counts for Zaishen Bounty.

I have a strong feeling that the new Hero is Keiran.... however, it is Keiran not as a ranger hero, but as a paragon.
1) It is "not what we would expect" as promised - a twist, yet directly connected to the story, in the way no other alternative is.
2) Keiran's gradual acquisition of Paragon skills is linked with his change of character in the story - and reinforced in his proposal to Gwen by him identifying himself as a changed man of leadership - one who is going to have to lead the Ebon Hawke by the way, with Langmar conveniently dead. It is all the more notable that all of Keiran's "ranger" skills are made up, while the Paragon skills are number tweaked variants of actual player paragon skills - I.E. we might not recognize them as "paragon" skills if they didn't come from skills we already knew, meaning that the team wanted to communicate an actual movement towards paragonhood.
3) Their GW2 descendant, Logan Thackery, is likely from the second unannounced soldier class, whose concept art and screenshots strongly suggest the "noble knight" archetype often played out by paladins, etc. Paragons are the closest aesthetic match in GW1, with their hybrid martial and party-supportive nature, and identity as leaders (Kormir/Morgan) and the English word associations ("paragon of virtue" etc.) Basically then this change brings greater continuity to Logan as the heir to the legacy of Keiran, and therefore GW1 and GW2.
4) We might see this is an overall plan to gradually furnish players with 3 heroes of every profession, which could actually matter when full hero parties arrive. That likely has priority over adding 4th heroes of existing classes. This would be one strategy for the "enhanced rewards" promised for Winds of Change - the devs already commented how they see a hero as something "better than an aesthetic reward" for Keiran's quest line, so it is likely part of their plans for the future. It also sets up ritualist and assassin heros as the two of the last three classes to become 3 heroes, which is extremely appropriate for Canthan content to supply us with.
5) Miku hinted that Keiran *might* meet her again - not that they will or won't. While it is certainly possible that this is setting up future determined storyline interactions between the two, it could also hint that the "meeting" is in the form of Keiran optionally serving as a hero in your party, working alongside Miku in the Cantha chapter - and indeed Miku herself might become a hero after some progress through said content.
6) Keiran having the possibility to serve as a hero alongside Gwen - and therefore in the same "group" and "class" as Gwen - is also a very strong way to communicate their new married union to the player.

Thanks for the new content Anet. I can understand some angst from the poeple who were getting stuck with quest progression (ie finding the objects were missing), but the other boo boys who seem to hate anything new for little reason at all just need to get over themselves.
Personally I was fairly lucky - the only time I went into an area and the object wasn't there was the first one, and that was because I hadn't gone outside the HoM to talk to the guy who says go find Thackery. I had 2 sets of looped speeches but was able to go straight out and find the next item.

Possibly. The sad thing is though that's almost as bad as a sin or ranger hero.

Well Gwen is currently the captain of the Ebon Vanguard and I doubt that she'll give that position to her future husband (we all know how b**chy she can be).
Also Keiran could return in Cantha like he did (and others NPCs) in the WiK : find him, convince him to come and he appears in one or two missions.
ANet is full of surprises, so you may be right.
